             Roy Decarava: Painter and photographer born and raised in Harlem, who shot in dark                           lighting. He won a scholarship to an art school and studied photography. He then went to the               streets, photographing black people and their lives. Later he became a teacher at Hunter                       college and won an art award in 2006.

              George Hurrell: He was a famous Hollywood photographer who shot glamorous photos of                    well known actresses and actors. Normally the photos were dramatic. George went to art                      school and found his passion for photography, he originally took photos of scenes but                          turned to portraits as a mission.

 

              Paul Caponigro: Paul took photos in black in white. Some of his work also incorporates                        blurry motion images like the one above.

Jan Groover

Jan was born April 24, 1943 and died January 1, 2012. She was very famous for er still life photos. For most of her later years she spent her time in Montpon-Menesterol, France. The photos she took were mainly objects of the kitchen which people took as a feminist act, but also a fictional story.

 29 aperture Apertures are the amount of light that comes into the lens. The more light creates more background clarity, the less light the more blurry the background will be.

Letter to Inspirational Artist

Dear AW,

I want to thank you again for allowing me to send you a written letter for class. I am a senior at ConVal Regional High in New Hampshire. I will tell you a little about myself and my relations with photography which is not much. Basically I believe photography is a powerful art and tool that most people are privileged with. Bright, happy photos bore me, it drowns out the mystery of the moment captured. Most of all I adore pictures of movement, people, shadows (an object's ghost), patterns, and texture. Action photos are extremely lovely, like the Peggysue image where she's moving causing her to show up blurry.

My film and photo 1 class was assigned to write an artist that we were intrigued by, asking questions and opinions. I didn’t hesitate much in choosing you. I follow you on Instagram and during this class I also had the chance to look at your blog, which I can not stop returning to. Something about your photography skills has me captured. Your photos somehow make me question what's important while telling a story. For instance the chair with the cut out in the center of it in your 24 Hour Records serie, it's a piece of the night that could lead to a wild story that was stolen all in a picture.

I would love to learn about you, is photography your first job? It looks like you travel, so have your travels been dedicated to taking pictures or did you go and bring your camera? Is taking photos a business you're involved with and if it is, is it difficult? I love your vision and technique, tell me what made you so involved with photography. Do you think that the materials you use are what creates a beautiful image, what is? Where is a place you long to take photos of and why? One more question, what is your favorite color?

I would love if you’d respond but if you do not have time I understand. I would also encourage you to visit New Hampshire if you have time because at this very moment the fall foliage is amongst us. Plus I would love to meet you and talk to you more in person. Thank you again I am so thankful for your response in the first place.

Shutter Speed

This project was meant for discovering different shutter speeds. The bicycle photos were with higher shutter speeds while the bus images were at very low shutter speeds.

The first female news reporter

In 1971 she was officially the first female news anchor for ABC. She went to Vietnam on the field to report. The photo above is her in the Highlands of Vietnam.

A Scottish physicist who took the first color photo. This later caused the discovery of infer-red photos, to take pictures of space.
